In our list, we have collected a few keyboards that we ourselves prefer to use. While there are many options for good keyboards, we thought we’d share our favorites with you. If you have your own favorite “keyboard,” feel free to share about it in the comments!

Kinesis Freestyle Edge RGB Split

And here’s a similar keyboard, but already with cool backlighting. It is positioned as a gamer’s keyboard, but it can be used by developers/authors without any problems. It’s comfortable to type, but if you want to split the keyboard into two halves, you’ll have to get used to it, and adaptation will take a few weeks, no less.

But the result is worth it: you’ll be typing at a faster speed than usual. Your hands are less tired, simply because you can spread them apart or change the position of the keyboard halves by placing them at different levels on the table.

Another feature of the keyboard is a stand that raises the halves of the keyboard. This is also convenient, and a standard keyboard does not allow you to do this. Ergonomic keyboards like this one help to reduce the load not only on the hands, but also on the forearms and shoulders. Your neck is also less tired, although, it would seem, what does it have to do with working on the keyboard?

The difference between this version and the previous one, besides backlighting, is the ability to add macros – not only is there software for this, but also dedicated buttons in a separate block.

Logitech Ergo K860

Logitech is one of the most famous manufacturers of keyboards and mice. This time Logitech has developed a wireless ergonomic keyboard, which is somewhat similar to Microsoft Sculpt. Perhaps this solution is the most comfortable for hands, that’s why it is repeated from company to company (there are similar ones from other vendors as well).

The angle between the two halves of the keyboard is about 30 degrees, and the shape itself is wavy. According to the manufacturer, thanks to this, the user’s hands practically do not get tired. There is also a soft foam cushion for wrists with memory effect.

In general, the keyboard turned out to be cool, nothing to say. In addition to all its advantages, the developers made the device wireless. The keyboard can be connected to a PC not only via Bluetooth, but also via Wi-Fi. With two ordinary AAA batteries, the keyboard can last for a couple of years.

It costs around $129.99.

Kinesis Advantage2

This is the most expensive keyboard in the selection. But it is quite popular among developers – at least in the USA and Europe. It is often put as an example because of its successful ergonomics and its customization for a certain type of work, namely code input. To be honest, I haven’t met any reviews where it is positioned as a tool for editors. It looks unusual, but, in general, the difference with a keyboard simply divided into two parts is small.

The keys are widely spaced to match the distance between your hands. According to the manufacturers, the concave shape is very comfortable. Function keys like Enter, CTRL and ALT are spaced so that they can be reached with your thumbs.

The keyboard is mechanical, based on Cherry MX Brown switches, as in some gaming keyboards. In general, no one prevents you from trying to play on it, but it’s unlikely to be comfortable.

This is the end of the first selection, because there are still a lot of good and different keyboards, and you can’t fit everything you want into one article. Let’s better discuss the keyboards you work with. Describe your favorite device in the comments – why did you choose this keyboard, what are its features, how much did it cost you?

I think that many readers often work with a keyboard – no matter for code or writing articles/documentation. You can adapt to any keyboard, even the most inexpensive and “Chinese” (although there are excellent models in this category as well). But it is better, of course, to work in comfort.

In this selection we have gathered a few keyboards that we like ourselves, and some we are looking at. There are plenty of good keyboards, and we’ll write about some of them. If you have your own favorite keyboard, tell us about it in the comments.

Microsoft Sculpt

I’m starting with this keyboard because I use it myself. I chose it simply on the principle of “liking it” – I saw a review and bought it a few days later. It took me a long time to get used to it, as the keyboard consists of two parts with a gap between them. I spent a few days to learn to type without errors, and then it took a couple more weeks to get back to the previous typing speed. After another couple of weeks, I started typing even faster than before – perhaps it was the ergonomics of the keyboard that had an effect.

By the way, one of the features of Microsoft Sculpt is a completely separate numeric keypad as a module. I didn’t quite appreciate this feature, because it’s inconvenient to keep the module on the table all the time – it gets in the way under my hands. And if you put it aside somewhere, you forget about it or are too lazy to get up and go look for it.

In general, I eventually sold it, as it was of little use. But I am very happy with the keyboard and mouse – I will write about it separately, it’s just a song. By the way, I also take it on business trips, not just a portable small mouse, as before.

Microsoft Surface

I include this keyboard in the list because it’s very similar to the previous one, which means there’s a good chance that it’s just as comfortable. Its advantage is that the number pad is built into the main keyboard – no problems using it.

I also like these two keyboards because they have a separate calculator button. Probably other keyboards have such a feature. It’s a small thing, but it’s nice.

One more thing: as far as I can see, the hand rest here is made with the texture of matter (correct me if wrong). Which means that the stand will get dirty quickly, no matter how clean the owner’s hands are. Hopefully, it can be cleaned without any problems.

It is intended for the Surface line, which you can understand from the name. But it works great with laptops or desktops as well.

Matias Ergo Pro

Unlike the Miscrosoft Sculpt, which is a monolithic keyboard with a partial split, the Matias Ergo Pro is a two-piece keyboard. This is no longer news, probably something similar many of you have seen. But it is said to be very comfortable to work with. You can use it as a monolith, or you can split it into two different blocks, gradually increasing the distance between them. Owners of such keyboards claim that the speed of typing increases significantly if you get used to it.

In general, the keyboard is positioned as a tool that allows you to increase productivity and efficiency. It would be possible to add backlighting, of course, but it’s good as it is – the keyboard works perfectly, its owners I know are happy with it.

However, it costs a lot – about $200 on Amazon.

As technology advances and the demand for convenient and efficient ways to enter text increases, many new innovations in keyboard layouts have emerged. These innovations improve the performance and comfort of the keyboard.

One of the most popular innovations is keyboard layout customization. Users can now customize the layout of the keys to their liking and create a personalized layout that is most comfortable for them. This is especially useful for people with physical disabilities or special needs.

Another innovation is the “ErgoDox” layout, designed with the anatomical structure of the hands in mind. It offers separation of the keys into two separate platforms, which reduces fatigue and improves typing efficiency.

There are also keyboards with optimized layouts for specific tasks, such as programming or gaming. They have additional keys and combinations designed specifically to perform certain functions and simplify interaction with programs or game mechanics.

Innovation is not limited to hardware, new software solutions are also emerging. For example, virtual keyboards that allow you to use multiple layouts on one screen and switch between them using gestures or hotkeys. This is especially useful for working with multiple languages or specialized characters.

However, despite all the innovations, the most common and popular layouts are still “QWERTY” and “ANSI”. They are based on years of usage experience and have proven to be convenient and effective for most users.

Your choice of keyboard layout depends largely on the type of activities you plan to perform on your computer. Different layouts may be more or less convenient for certain tasks. Let’s look at some recommendations for different activities:

Programming

For programmers, it is recommended that you use a keyboard layout that is optimized for typing code. For example, the Programmer’s Dvorak keyboard layout offers an arrangement of characters so that the most frequently used key combinations can be accessed without moving your fingers.

Typing

If you often have to type large amounts of text, for example, when working with editors or writing articles, it is recommended to choose a keyboard layout that is most convenient for typing words in your language. For example, for the Russian language, this may be the standard layout YZUKEN.

Gaming

For gaming, especially first-person shooters or strategy games, it is important to have quick access to the control keys. It is recommended to choose a keyboard layout that provides convenience for quick keystrokes and character controls. Some gamers prefer to use specialized gamepads that are customizable to their needs.

Multimedia

To work with multimedia applications such as video editors or audio editors, it is important to have access to specialized function keys. It is recommended to choose a keyboard layout that provides such function keys, such as a keyboard layout for multimedia work.

Study the characteristics and features of each keyboard layout and choose the one that best suits your needs. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try different options until you find the perfect layout for your needs.
