Workman License

The Workman Layout is free to the public.
This means that there is no license, permission, or fee necessary to use or implement the layout itself (arrangement of keys), or the installation files that I released.
Use it, implement it, integrate it, create tools for it, etc. Have a go at it. You don’t need my permission to do so.

However, if you do use or implement the Workman Layout (arrangement of the keys) in some way or fashion, attribution to OJ Bucao as the creator is requested and a link back to this blog. What I am asking for is to be properly credited as the person who created the Workman Layout with a link to my website. This means that if you have an Workman Layout implementation/installation file that you created for some platform or OS, please put something like the following:

The Workman Keyboard Layout created by OJ Bucao.
www.workmanlayout.com

Also if you use content from my blog or articles or quote me directly, please use proper citation .

Having said this, I am also retaining the rights to the name Workman.
As the author of the Workman Keyboard Layout, I am retaining the right to name what is officially to be called Workman.
This means that if you have an idea for a cool new keyboard layout, or decide to modify Workman into something else (i.e. not using the Workman Layout alphabetic arrangement), please name your layout differently unless you have my permission to do so.

You may however make variations of the Workman Layout that does not modify or change the alphabetic arrangement of the original and you may call it as some variation of the Workman Layout (i.e. Workman Layout wide mod, etc.)

I hope this clarifies any confusion.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

  1. OJ,

That is great news, thank’s for announcing it! Thanks too for putting the time in to create the layout in the first place!

I have been using Workman for about five months now and annoy my friends and coworkers with my constant pro-Workman evangelism. I am nearly finished writing a couple paragraphs on Workman for Wikipedia’s article on Keyboard Layouts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout) (with proper attribution to you as its creator) and I was wondering if you would grant me permission to upload the PNG of the Workman Layout to Wikimedia Commons. It would also be just as good, if not better, if you could upload it there yourself so I can reference it in the article. Either way, it would be good to have an image up there for people reading the article to see what the layout is about.

    Thanks,

    Deeter

    • Hey Scott. I’m very glad that you’re enjoying Workman. :D Feel free to upload the image as you wish. You definitely have my permission. And thank you very much for your contribution!

    • Thank you sir. By the way, I’ve just been informed that t Workman has been committed into Xorg. We should start to see it included in many Linux distros soon. I posted an article about it with a link to the request. Shawn Badger initiated the whole thing.
